Thousands of legally registered voters were turned away from the polls in both Dallas and Denton County on Primary Eection Day in March, thanks to decisions by the chairs of the Republican Party in those counties. Now Dallas Republicans want to fire their chair, Allen West, but Denton GOP Chair Melinda Preston faces no blowback from her party.

After six years of smoothly run countywide Election Day voting, the Dallas County GOP leadership decided to switch to precinct-based voting for Primary Election Day, March 3, and for the Primary Runoff Election Day May 26. This meant that both GOP and Democratic voters could only cast ballots in their home precincts on Election Day, a rule that many of them did not know existed.

Chaos ensued. Frantic election judges from both parties reported turning away thousands of voters. A last minute effort to extend voting times for Democrats was put in place, then blocked by GOP Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton.

Dallas County GOP Chair West decided he didn't want a repeat of the mass confusion among his party's voters for the May 26 primary runoff, so he opted to switch back to countywide voting on that Election Day. Now the Dallas Morning News reports that Dallas GOP precinct chairs want to oust him from his position as a result.

Apparently those precinct chairs really want stop more legally registered Dallas voters from voting on primary runoff Election Day -- including Republicans!

Meanwhile in Denton County, judges will be rejecting voters of both parties at polling locations on May 26, as we do on Election Day for every single Election.

And no retribution is in store for Denton County GOP Chair Melinda Preston who is quite happy to keep standing up for Election Day voter chaos in Denton County on every Election Day -- not just in primaries!

If you as a Denton County voter think this is wrong...or just plain crazy... let her know. Send her an email at melinda@dentongop.org or call her at (972) 839-0806.
