The best argument for Vote Centers: voters in other counties love it and won't go back!

Supporters of countywide Election Day voting in Denton County capped off a summer of protests in support of the change by presenting a petition from more than 1,800 voters for Vote Centers to the Denton County Commission meeting at their meeting on Sept. 1.

Voting Centers Now! organizer and election worker Jane Scholz spoke briefly to the commissioners before handing over the petition. More than 60 voters were on hand to stand up in support for Vote Centers.

"When I talk to voters about this issue," she said, "they often ask why the Republican Party opposes countywide Election Day voting.  I just repeat the reasons (the GOP County Chair) has given right here in this room. 

"Her most convincing argument is that we can’t switch to countywide Election Day voting because once we do, it will be impossible to get back to the old assigned-precinct system.  I don’t agree with a lot of what she says about Vote Centers, but she’s right on this point!!!!

"100 Texas counties with 87% of the state’s voters already have countywide Election Day voting.

"When the Republican Party forced a few of those counties — including Dallas County —  to revert to the old precinct-based system for the March 3 primary last spring, confusion and chaos ensued.  Voters were angry. Lawsuits got filed.  At least one party official lost his job.

"It’s no surprise.  Voters who have it LIKE countywide Election Day voting!  They hate being forced back to the outdated system we still use here."
