Election Judge April McGrew, from The Colony, led about 60 Voting Centers Now protesters before the Denton County Commission with some wise words on June 30. Watch her 2-minute speech above, then sign up for the July 14 protest.
She told them our county should stop turning away thousands of voters on every Election Day for no good reason and explained the advantages of countywide voting.
Here's some of what she had to say:
"Collin County, right next door, uses this model, and thousands of voters use that flexibility on Election Day without issue: a county that looks a lot like ours managing just fine.
"More than a hundred Texas counties participate in this program representing 87% of the state's voters. And I'll tell you, some of those counties are where the cows outnumber the people. So if it works out there, I think we can manage it here in Denton County.
"These counties maintain secure precinct-specific ballots and accurate voter records, and they've seen real improvements, fewer provisional ballots, and smoother Election Day operations.
This isn't an experiment. It's a track record.
"It's also worth noting that a handful of counties have tried returning to precinct-specific-only voting in recent cycles, and it did not go smoothly. They switched back. The direction of travel here is pretty clear."
Another Election Judge will speak out for countywide Election Day voting at 9 am, July 14. Be there to back her up in this peaceful protest for Election Day voting rights in the Denton County Commission chambers.
