The GOP’s fifth objection to countywide Election Day voting harkens back to what must have been an idyllic time when voters knew all their neighbors and could walk from their homes to a neighborhood polling place that never changed from one year to the next.

Our busy, sprawling urban-suburban county of nearly a thousand square miles and more than a million people is not that place anymore. And it’s going to become less and less that place as the number of voters grows rapidly and spreads out even farther to the west and north.

The GOP chair says that if we had countywide Election Day voting, voters would lose the warm feeling of meeting their friends in the assigned precinct polling location where they are now forced to vote on Election Day.

The truth is that most voters want to get in, cast their ballot and get on with their business as fast as possible.

People rushing to vote on their lunch break or after picking up their kids from soccer practice or day care aren’t looking to socialize, they need to fit their civic duty to vote into the demands living in a sprawling urban county.

Sign the petition and tell our County Commission you want them to end Election Day voter confusion NOW!
