While thousands of voters are turned away from polling places every Election Day, the Denton Co. GOP makes nonsense claims like this to block change: Countywide voting would lead to long lines at polling places.
They ignore the fact that our current assigned-precinct voting system has long lines on Election Days in some locations. And at least with Vote Centers
-- if lines were long at one location, you could go directly to another where your vote would count,
-- everyone in line would get to vote when they got to the front of the line!!!
-- none of the nearly 100 counties with countywide Election Day voting already have switched back to the old system, so the lines must not be that long!!!!
It’s up to our County Commissioners -- all Republicans -- to make sure there are enough locations and poll workers to meet voter demand. The state also sets minimum standards for numbers of polling locations.
85% of Texas voters -- including those in all the urban counties except Denton -- have countywide Election Day voting, aka Vote Centers.
Stop Election Day voter confusion. Sign our petition. Speak to the Commission.
